In many ancient cultures and most tribal cultures (many of which are extinct), communities had very specific rituals created to initiate their boys into manhood. Through these rites of passage rituals, boys learned, from the guidance of the men and the support of the women, what was expected of them as men in their communities. These boys would have their mettle tested.  They would receive wisdom from their elders.  They would be taught the “rules” and customs for men in their society.  Perhaps most importantly, they would return to their communities as men.

Most of today’s men have not been initiated into manhood. They have reached adulthood without the ritual, the wisdom, the guidance and the support of the men and women in their communities. As a result, men today are confused. They’re not clear about their role as men in our society. They don’t know that it’s okay to admit weakness and to ask for help. Nor do they know where to go to get that help. Often times, they’re lonely, angry, depressed and desperately in need of change.  Tragically, they often don't know it.

The BetterMen Brass Nuts Weekend: An Initiation for Men offers men the opportunity to experience that rite of passage, that initiation into manhood. Men experience themselves, possibly for the first time, as men rather than boys. This ritual, this extraordinary experience, allows men to develop their personal vision of what it is to be a man, a father, a son, a husband, a friend and a mentor.
